Crown Royal Blackberry
The star of this drink is definitely the new crown royal blackberry flavored whiskey. I found it at my local Liquor store and absolutely had to try it out. The flavor profile is a sweet blackberry whiskey that pairs so well with a variety of flavors. Here is the description for it from the Crown Royal website:
What flavors pair well with Blackberry?
Blackberry has a unique flavor profile that can be complemented by a variety of other flavors. Here are some combinations that work well:
- Citrus: The tartness of citrus fruits like lemon, orange, or lime can enhance the sweetness of blackberries.
- Mint: Mint adds a refreshing and cooling element to the sweet and slightly tart flavor of blackberries.
- Vanilla: The warmth and sweetness of vanilla can enhance the natural sweetness of blackberries without overpowering them.
- Ginger: The spiciness of ginger can add a nice contrast to the sweetness of blackberries, creating a complex flavor profile.
- Basil: Basil’s slightly peppery and herbal notes can complement the sweetness of blackberries, creating an interesting flavor combination.
- Lavender: Lavender adds a floral and aromatic note that pairs well with the sweetness of blackberries, creating a sophisticated flavor profile.
- Almond: The nuttiness of almonds can provide a delicious contrast to the sweetness of blackberries, whether in the form of almond extract, chopped almonds, or almond meal.
- Chocolate: Dark chocolate can complement the sweetness of blackberries while adding richness and depth to desserts or baked goods.
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon’s warm and spicy flavor can enhance the natural sweetness of blackberries, creating a cozy and comforting combination.
For the Blackberry Vanilla Cream cocktail, we incorporated a few of these flavors. We have fresh lime, simple syrup, and sweet vanilla flavor.
Can you make simple syrup?
Yes, you can definitely make simple syrup at home. I always make mine at home, and store it in an airtight container.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has completely dissolved. This usually takes 3-5 minutes.
- Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the simple syrup to a clean, airtight container (such as a glass jar or bottle) for storage. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Note: You can adjust the ratio of sugar to water depending on how thick or thin you want your simple syrup to be. A 1:1 ratio (equal parts sugar and water) is the most common, but you can also make a richer syrup with a 2:1 ratio (two parts sugar to one part water) or a lighter syrup with a 1:2 ratio (one part sugar to two parts water).
