This recipe post happened since we needed candied bacon for a cocktail garnish. Candied bacon sits proudly on top of our breakfast shot (posting that recipe soon).
After all what is breakfast without bacon? 🙂 Candied bacon is useful for topping maple flavored cupcakes, baked potatoes, a beer breakfast and bloody Marys.
It also makes a popular appetizer. That sweet smoky flavor is so good! Just chop the bacon slices into small pieces and set it out on a tray.
Bacon candy otherwise known as pig candy will disappear quickly off the plate.

The Oven Method:
We use this oven method since it gives a good result and is VERY simple to do.
- Arrange the bacon slices on a wire rack in a single layer on your lined baking sheet. This ensures the fats runoff and the flavors are intensified.
- Spread on the brown sugar and pepper.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
This is a versatile recipe. Almost ALL homemade Food can be adjusted to suit your needs and personal taste. That’s the beautiful part of making it yourself. 🙂
Here’s a few ways to change up this recipe:
You can add (or change up) spices to alter the tone from smoky sweet to spicy candied bacon. Here’s a few options:
- Replace the brown sugar with maple syrup. (be careful here. The syrup will be much messier and tend to run off.
- Try a cinnamon sugar mixture for Holiday fun.
- Replace the black pepper with 2 tsp. Chili powder (or use them together)
- Use 1 tablespoon smoked paprika with the brown sugar.
- Sweet mesquite or smokehouse maple seasonings will increase the smokiness and sweetness of the bacon.
- Cajun spices may also be good.

Oven Baked Candied Bacon Recipe
Candied Bacon makes a fantastic sweet smoky garnish for topping maple cupcakes, the breakfast shot, Beer, deviled eggs and so much more. Let us know your favorite ways to use it.
Ingredients
- 7 strips smoked bacon-regular cut not thick or thin
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment, aluminum foil or a silicone mat.
- Set a wire rack on the prepared baking sheet.
- Arrange the bacon slices evenly apart on wire rack in a single layer. (Also watch video)
- Spread the brown sugar evenly over each strip of bacon.
- Sprinkle the black pepper over the brown sugar.
- Bake 20 minutes
- Cool and serve.
